Sam Lilburn

I'm a passionate Piano Technician based in Hobart, Tasmania. During my 15+ years of experience working as a Piano Technician, Audio Engineer and Musician; I've been constantly working to refine my understanding of sound, music and acoustics. I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Adelaide and have played piano for as long as I can remember. My knowledge and experience of and with pianos is broad, and is something I constantly expand upon.

I've been servicing the beautiful pianos of Tasmania since 2024, during which time I have had the pleasure of working with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Theatre Royal, Salamanca Arts Centre, Virtuosi Tas, Van Diemen's Band and many of the other amazing music institutions of Tasmania.

My technician's journey started in 2022 when I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Piano Teachers Association to move to Sydney to learn to become a Piano Technician. Keven Jenkinson (ARPT, RPT) introduced me to the incredibly complex world of piano technology. At his school, KJPiano Academy, I spent a year learning the subtle art of piano maintenance. This helped me understand the inner-workings of the mechanism and materials that make up a piano. It was a fantastic start to my piano technician journey, which I have since turned into a career.

It is a passion of mine to explore sound in all of its detail, and music in all of its depth. Understanding the intricacies and complexities of this beautiful instrument has opened a world of wonder, captivation and respect. A piano truly is more than just the sum of its parts. 

I look forward to working with musicians across Australia, to ensure your instrument can evoke music’s heart and soul.
